Clayton Barr

Clayton Barr (born 12 September 1973) is an Australian politician who has served as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for the electoral district of Cessnock since 2007. He is a member of the Australian Labor Party.

Early life and education

Clayton Barr was born in Newcastle, New South Wales. He received his education at the University of Newcastle, where he completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Prior to entering politics, Barr worked as an accountant.

Political career

Barr was first elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in 2007, representing the seat of Cessnock. He has since been re-elected in 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023.

Throughout his parliamentary career, Barr has held various shadow ministerial portfolios within the New South Wales Labor opposition. These roles have included:

  • Shadow Minister for Finance
  • Shadow Minister for Industry and Trade
  • Shadow Minister for Transport and Roads
  • Shadow Minister for Energy and Climate Change
  • Shadow Minister for Water
  • Shadow Minister for Local Government
  • Shadow Minister for Housing and Homelessness

As of 2024, Barr serves as the Shadow Minister for Water, Housing, and Homelessness, advocating for Labor's policies on these critical issues within the state.

Electoral history

Barr has consistently held the seat of Cessnock for the Labor Party since his initial election in 2007, reflecting strong local support in the Hunter Region.

Clayton Barr is married and has children. He resides in his electorate, maintaining close ties with the local community.
