The City of South Perth is a local government area (LGA) in the southern suburbs of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia. It is administered by the South Perth City Council, which provides municipal services and local governance for its constituent suburbs.

Located on the southern banks of the Swan River, the City of South Perth covers an area of approximately 12.8 km² (5 sq mi). As of the most recent Australian Bureau of Statistics estimate (2023), the LGA had a resident population of around 30,000 people. The council’s administrative centre is situated in South Perth, a suburb that also serves as the geographic and cultural focus of the area.

The City of South Perth is part of the greater Perth metropolitan region and lies about 5 kilometres (3 mi) south of the Perth Central Business District. It is bounded by the City of Melville to the west, the City of Perth to the north (across the Swan River), and the City of Canning to the east and south.

Etymology/Origin
The name “South Perth” derives directly from its location relative to the central settlement of Perth; it denotes the area situated on the southern side of the Swan River. The term “City of South Perth” reflects the LGA’s status as a city‑level municipality, a designation granted under Western Australian local‑government legislation.
