Chugay District

The Chugay District (Russian: Чугу́евский райо́н, Chuguyevsky rayon) is an administrative and municipal district (raion) of Primorsky Krai, Russia. It is located in the southeastern part of the krai, approximately 300 kilometers (190 mi) northeast of the krai's capital, Vladivostok. Its administrative center is the rural locality (selo) of Chuguyevka.

Geography The Chugay District covers a vast area of approximately 23,459.1 square kilometers (9,057.6 sq mi), making it one of the largest districts in Primorsky Krai by area. It is characterized by a diverse landscape, including mountainous terrain, taiga forests, and river valleys. The district is traversed by several rivers, notably the Ussuri River, which forms part of its eastern border. The climate is temperate monsoon, with warm, humid summers and cold, dry winters.

History The Chugay District was officially established on January 4, 1926. Its formation was part of the broader administrative reorganization of the Soviet Far East. The region has a history of logging and agricultural development, which began to intensify in the late 19th and early 20th centuries with the arrival of settlers.

Population As of the 2021 Russian Census, the population of the Chugay District was 22,990. The majority of the population resides in rural localities, with Chuguyevka being the largest settlement.

Economy The economy of the Chugay District is primarily based on natural resource extraction and agriculture. Key industries include:
