Chub, Texas

Chub is an unincorporated community located in Midland County in the western part of the U.S. state of Texas. It lies at geographic coordinates 32°01′26″ N, 102°01′09″ W (approximately 32.0239° N, 102.0192° W) and has an elevation of about 2,769 feet (844 m) above sea level.

Geography
The community is situated roughly four miles northeast of the city of Midland, the county seat of Midland County. As an unincorporated area, Chub does not have its own municipal government; local governance and services are administered by Midland County.

History
Chub was likely founded in the 1880s, contemporaneous with the extension of the Texas and Pacific Railway through the region. The settlement developed as a railway station point, serving the transportation and logistical needs of the surrounding area. Historical maps from the early 20th century list Chub as a stop on the railway line, and by the 1930s the site featured a pumping station, water tanks, and a small cluster of dwellings. Over time, the community remained sparsely populated and retained its status as an unincorporated locality.

Demographics
Because Chub is unincorporated and not designated as a census‑designated place, specific population figures are not separately reported in U.S. Census data. The broader Midland County region, however, has experienced growth associated with the Permian Basin oil industry.

Transportation
The Texas and Pacific Railway, now part of larger freight rail networks, historically provided the primary transportation link for Chub. Contemporary access to the community is via local county roads that connect to U.S. Highway 87 and Interstate 20, which run through nearby Midland.
