It is typically found in habitats where its host species are active, such as sunny forest edges, meadows, and areas with dry, sandy soil or dead wood.

Physical Characteristics Like most members of the family Chrysididae, Chrysura austriaca possesses a heavily sclerotized exoskeleton with a brilliant metallic or iridescent coloration. This coloration is usually a combination of green, blue, or coppery-red, varying across different parts of the body. The exoskeleton is often densely pitted, a structural adaptation that provides protection against the stings and mandibles of host insects.

Biology and Ecology The species is a kleptoparasitoid or parasitoid. Females seek out the nests of solitary bees, particularly those in the family Megachilidae, such as the genus Osmia. The female Chrysura austriaca enters the host's nest to deposit an egg. Once the wasp larva hatches, it typically consumes the host's egg or young larva and then feeds on the pollen and nectar provisions stored in the nest cell.

The adult wasps are most active during the late spring and summer months, coinciding with the nesting periods of their hosts. They are often observed visiting flowers to feed on nectar.
