Christophe Pierre (born 15 August 1953) is a French prelate of the Catholic Church who serves in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. He was ordained a priest on 16 June 1979 for the Archdiocese of Lille, France. After completing studies at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, he entered the Holy See’s diplomatic corps in 1984.
Pierre has held the following appointments as Apostolic Nuncio (the Holy See’s ambassador) and as a titular archbishop:
- Apostolic Nuncio to Haiti – appointed 24 August 2008; concurrently given the titular archbishopric of Turrisblanda and consecrated as an archbishop on 31 October 2008.
- Apostolic Nuncio to the Republic of the Congo and Gabon – appointed 12 November 2014.
- Apostolic Nuncio to the United Arab Emirates – appointed 26 May 2017.
- Apostolic Nuncio to the United States – appointed 21 September 2022, succeeding Archbishop Celestino Migliore.
In his diplomatic roles, Pierre has represented the Holy See in both ecclesiastical and civil matters, facilitating communication between the Vatican and the governments and local churches of the countries to which he is assigned. His work includes promoting Catholic‑Church interests, engaging in interreligious dialogue, and addressing humanitarian and social issues.
Pierre holds a doctorate in canon law and is fluent in several languages, including French, Italian, English, and Spanish. His career reflects the standard pathway for Vatican diplomats: theological formation, advanced ecclesiastical studies, and progressive assignments in the Holy See’s diplomatic service.
