Chiayi-Tainan Luka

The Chiayi‑Tainan Luka (嘉南勇士, literally “Chianan Braves”) was a professional baseball team that competed in the Taiwan Major League (TML) from 1997 until the league’s dissolution in 2002. The franchise represented the cities of Chiayi and Tainan in southwestern Taiwan and was commonly abbreviated as Chianan Luka.

League participation and history

  • Joined the inaugural season of the TML in 1997, a short‑lived rival to the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL).
  • Won the league championship in its first season (1997) but experienced declining performance in subsequent years.
  • After the TML merged with the CPBL in 2003, the team was absorbed into Taichung Agan and later exchanged identities with Taipei Gida, which eventually became the Macoto Cobras.

Home venues

  • Primary home field: Chiayi County Baseball Stadium (distinct from the nearby Chiayi City Municipal Baseball Stadium).
  • Additional home games were played at Tainan Baseball Field. Both facilities featured natural turf and clay surfaces.

Following the TML’s merger with the CPBL, the franchise’s assets and personnel were incorporated into other CPBL clubs. The former home stadiums continue to be used for baseball activities in their respective regions.
