Chen Zhong

Chen Zhong (born 15 January 1980) is a Chinese former taekwondo practitioner who competed internationally for the People's Republic of China. She is best known for winning the gold medal in the women's heavyweight division (+67 kg) at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where taekwondo made its debut as an official Olympic sport. Chen repeated her Olympic success by securing a silver medal in the same weight class at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.

Born in Hunan Province, China, Chen began practicing taekwondo at a young age and quickly rose through the national ranks. She claimed multiple titles at the Asian Taekwondo Championships, winning gold in 1998 and 2002, and also earned a gold medal at the 1999 World Taekwondo Championships in Edmonton, Canada.

Following her competitive career, Chen retired from active competition in the mid‑2000s and has been involved in coaching and promoting taekwondo within China. Her achievements have contributed to the development and popularity of the sport in her home country.
