Chen Wei-ling (Chinese: 陳葦綾; pinyin: Chén Wěilíng; born 4 January 1982) is a Taiwanese athlete who has competed internationally in Olympic weightlifting and powerlifting. She is a former Olympic medalist and a multiple‑time world record holder in the sport of powerlifting.
Overview
Born in Tainan, Taiwan, Chen began competing in the 48 kg weight class for weightlifting. She placed 11th at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and originally won the bronze medal in the 48 kg category at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, recording a 84 kg snatch and a 112 kg clean‑and‑jerk for a 196 kg total. In 2017, following the disqualification of the original gold and silver medallists for doping violations, Chen’s bronze was upgraded to a gold medal.
Beyond weightlifting, Chen has had an extensive powerlifting career, representing Chinese Taipei in the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) from 2001 to 2017. She has set and held numerous world records in the 44 kg and 47 kg classes, including equipped squat records of 210 kg and raw total records exceeding 400 kg. Her competition record includes medals at World Games (2001, 2005, 2009, 2013, 2017), Asian Games (bronze, 2010), Asian Championships, and East Asian Games.

The characters individually mean “reed” (葦) and “silk” or “fine fabric” (綾), though personal names are typically chosen for aesthetic or familial reasons rather than literal translation.
