Cheju Halla University

Cheju Halla University (Korean: 제주한라대학교; abbreviated as CHU) is a private higher education institution located in Jeju City, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, South Korea. The university is situated at 38 Halladaehak-ro, Nohyeong-dong, Jeju-si.

History

The institution traces its origins to 1969, when government authorization was granted for the establishment of a Public Junior Nursing Academy. In 1971, it received approval from the Ministry of Health and Welfare as a Nursing Academy, and in 1972, government authorization was granted for Cheju Nursing Academy, which opened in 1973. Ownership was transferred to the Halla Foundation in 1982. The school underwent several name changes: it became Cheju Nursing and Health Sciences Junior College in 1983, Halla Junior College in 1991, and Cheju Halla College in 1998. In 2011, the institution changed its name to Cheju Halla University and was approved to establish a four-year Bachelor's course in the Department of Nursing. It was designated as a World Class College (WCC) and was the first university in Korea approved to operate both bachelor's degree and associate degree courses simultaneously.

Academics

Cheju Halla University offers both bachelor's degree programs (4 years) and associate degree programs (2–3 years). The university is organized into the following schools:

  • School of Health Sciences – Departments of Clinical Laboratory Science, Radiologic Technology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Emergency Medical Technology, and Health Administration
  • International School of Tourism and Hospitality – Departments of Hotel Management, Hotel & Restaurant Management, International Business & Accountancy, Tourism Management, Tourism & English, Tourism & Japanese, Tourism & Chinese, Leisure Sports, and Hotel Culinary Arts
  • School of Social Welfare – Departments of Social Welfare, Early Childhood Education, and Social Welfare Administration
  • School of Information Technology and Architecture – Departments of Broadcasting, Film, and Information Technology, Intelligent Systems Engineering, Computer Information, Computer Multimedia, Information and Communication, and Architectural Design
  • School of Equine Science and Horticulture – Departments of Equine Resources and Science, Equine Management Science, and Environmental Horticulture
  • School of Arts – Departments of Industrial Design, Music, and Beauty Art

The university's motto is "Intelligence, Creativity, Service." Its stated mission is to promote social and national development by pursuing and propagating advanced knowledge and technology, and to produce professionals with the character, talents, and creativity demanded by the country.

International Programs

The Office of International Affairs, established in 2006, manages international student admissions and exchange programs. The university has partnerships with institutions in the United States, Australia, Japan, China, Switzerland, and other countries. It hosts a Confucius Institute and offers dual-degree programs with partner universities. The university has been certified by the International Education Quality Assurance System of the Ministry of Education and has been selected to educate government-sponsored international students.

Notable Designations

Cheju Halla University has been designated as a World Class College (WCC) by the Ministry of Education and has received recognition for high employment rates, graduate satisfaction, financial strength, educational support programs, and industry-academy cooperation.
