Charlie Young (footballer, born 1877)

Charles "Charlie" Young (born 1877) was an English professional footballer who played as a centre-forward or inside-forward in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His career included spells with several Football League clubs, most notably Sheffield United, Lincoln City, and Bradford Park Avenue.

Career

Young began his football career with local clubs before joining Sheffield United, a prominent First Division side at the time, around 1900. Competition for places was strong, and his opportunities at Bramall Lane were limited.

In 1901, Young moved to Lincoln City. He spent several seasons with the Imps, becoming a more regular feature in their attack in the Football League Second Division.

Young's most productive period arguably came after joining Bradford Park Avenue in 1904. He was a key part of the team that competed in the Southern League before the club was elected to the Football League Second Division in 1908. Young established himself as a prolific goalscorer for the club, contributing significantly to their early Football League campaigns.

After leaving Bradford Park Avenue, Young continued his career with Grimsby Town and other non-league clubs before retiring from professional football.
