Championship Bull Riding (CBR) was an American professional bull riding organization that operated from 2002 until approximately 2018. Headquartered in Weatherford, Texas, the organization produced a nationwide tour of events, providing a competitive circuit for professional bull riders and stock contractors.
The CBR’s premier competition series was known as the "Road to Cheyenne" tour. This circuit consisted of multiple televised events held across the United States, culminating annually in the CBR World Finals. For much of its history, the World Finals were held in conjunction with Cheyenne Frontier Days in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The competition format typically involved a three-round tournament structure in a single night, where riders were required to maintain their seat on a bucking bull for eight seconds to receive a score. Scoring followed standard rodeo practice, with a maximum of 100 points divided equally between the performance of the rider and the athleticism of the bull.
A distinguishing feature of the organization was the CBR Million Dollar Bull Team Challenge. This program focused on the bovine athletes by allowing stock contractors to enter teams of three bulls into a separate competition. Contractors earned points and prize money based on the collective performance of their animals, creating a structured market and incentive program for bull breeders and owners.
For a significant duration of its operation, CBR was closely associated with Tuff Hedeman, a four-time world champion bull rider and ProRodeo Hall of Fame inductee. Hedeman served as the organization's president and ambassador, contributing to its visibility and growth. CBR events were frequently broadcast on national television networks, including Great American Country (GAC) and Fox Sports Networks.
Following the departure of Tuff Hedeman in early 2018, the organization ceased regular operations. While it was once considered a primary competitor to the Professional Bull Riders (PBR), CBR has not maintained an active touring schedule or held a world championship event since the conclusion of its 2018 season.
