Chamestan District

The Chamestan District (Persian: بخش چمستان, Bakhsh-e Chamestan) is a district (bakhsh) in Nur County, Mazandaran Province, Iran. Its administrative center and capital city is Chamestan.

Geography and Administration: The Chamestan District is located in the western part of Mazandaran Province, bordering the Caspian Sea to the north and the Alborz mountain range to the south. It is one of the three districts that constitute Nur County, the others being the Central District and the Baladeh District.

Subdivisions: At the time of its most recent administrative divisions, Chamestan District comprises two rural districts (dehestan):

  • Lavij Rural District
  • Natel-e Restaq Rural District

Demographics: According to the 2006 National Census, the population of Chamestan District was 34,776 people in 9,141 households. A subsequent census in 2011 recorded the population as 36,990 people in 10,642 households. The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 39,275 people in 12,581 households.
