Cecilia Wigström (born 1971) is a Swedish former politician who served as a member of the Riksdag (the Swedish parliament) for the Liberal People's Party (Folkpartiet liberalerna, now known as the Liberals) from 1998 to 2010. She gained significant recognition for her extensive international involvement, particularly within the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

Early Life and Education Born in 1971, Wigström pursued higher education, earning a degree in law. Prior to her political career, she also worked in journalism, which contributed to her communication skills and understanding of public affairs.

Political Career Wigström was first elected to the Riksdag in the 1998 general election. She represented the Stockholm constituency and was re-elected for two subsequent terms, serving a total of 12 years in the Swedish parliament. During her tenure, she was actively involved in various parliamentary committees, notably including the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Culture.

Her most prominent role, however, was on the international stage through her participation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). As a long-standing member of PACE, Wigström held several influential positions, including serving as one of its Vice-Presidents. Within PACE, she distinguished herself as a rapporteur for numerous reports covering critical areas such as human rights, the protection of minorities, the promotion of democracy, media freedom, and gender equality. She was also a frequent participant in international election observation missions, advocating for fair and transparent democratic processes across Europe and beyond.

Wigström chose not to stand for re-election in the 2010 Swedish general election, thereby concluding her career in national politics.

Post-Political Career Following her departure from the Riksdag, Cecilia Wigström has continued her engagement in international affairs. She has often focused on areas related to human rights, democracy promotion, and civil society development, leveraging her considerable experience gained from her years in the Council of Europe.
