Catherine Masud began her career in the United Kingdom, where she trained in film production and editing. In 1995, she married Bangladeshi filmmaker Tareque Masud and subsequently moved to Bangladesh, becoming a central figure in the country's independent cinema movement. Together, they co‑produced and co‑edited several acclaimed films, most notably Matir Moina (The Clay Bird, 2002), which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Following Tareque Masud’s death in a road accident in 2011, Catherine Masud continued to oversee the preservation and restoration of his archival material, managing the Tareque Masud Film and Documentary Centre (TMFDC). She has also served as a mentor and trainer for emerging Bangladeshi filmmakers, contributing to workshops and film education initiatives. Her work encompasses both creative direction and technical aspects of filmmaking, emphasizing cultural heritage, social justice, and the documentation of Bangladeshi life.
