The Castle of Soutomaior (Spanish: Castillo de Soutomaior) is a medieval fortification located in the municipality of Soutomaior, in the province of Pontevedra, Galicia, northwestern Spain.
Historical Overview
- Construction: The initial construction of the castle dates to the early 12th century, attributed to the powerful Gontrodo family, who were feudal lords in the region.
- Feudal Ownership: Throughout the Middle Ages the castle changed hands among several Galician noble families, including the Soutomaior, Quiñones, and the Count of Lemos.
