Casey James Fien (born March 12, 1983) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 2009 to 2015 for the Chicago Cubs, San Diego Padres, and Detroit Marlins.
Early life and education
Fien was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended Raytown South High School, where he played baseball and earned all-state honors. He continued his baseball career at the University of Missouri, appearing primarily as a relief pitcher for the Missouri Tigers.
Professional career

Minor leagues (2005–2009): After being selected by the Kansas City Royals in the ninth round of the 2005 MLB Draft, Fien began his professional career in the Royals’ minor‑league system. He was later acquired by the Chicago Cubs organization in 2007, progressing through their affiliates and converting from a starter to a reliever.

Chicago Cubs (2009): Fien made his MLB debut on September 10, 2009, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He appeared in nine games for Chicago that season, posting a 7.00 earned run average (ERA).

San Diego Padres (2010–2014): Traded to the Padres in December 2009, Fien became a regular member of their bullpen. Over five seasons, he appeared in 259 games, compiling a 3.78 ERA and recording 278 strikeouts in 281⅔ innings pitched. He was utilized primarily as a middle reliever and occasionally as a setup man.

Detroit Marlins (2015): Fien signed a minor‑league contract with the Marlins in January 2015 and made the major‑league roster out of spring training. He appeared in 41 games, posting a 5.04 ERA before being designated for assignment in August 2015.
