Cartersburg is an unincorporated community in Boone County, Indiana, United States. It is situated in the eastern part of the county, near the intersection of U.S. Route 36 and State Road 75, approximately 5 mi east of the city of Lebanon. The community lies at an elevation of about 938 feet (286 m) above sea level and is located at geographic coordinates 39°55′26″ N, 86°44′35″ W.
History
Cartersburg was platted in 1852 after the extension of a railroad line through the area. The community was named after William Carter, an early settler and landowner who contributed to the town’s development. A post office was established in Cartersburg in 1852 and remained in operation until its closure in 1904.
