Carson Ross

Carson Ross (born October 14, 1990) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. A right-handed thrower, he played in Minor League Baseball for organizations such as the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers, as well as several independent league teams.

Early Life and Amateur Career

Ross was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, where he excelled in baseball. Following high school, he committed to Purdue University, where he played collegiate baseball for the Purdue Boilermakers. As a key member of the Boilermakers' pitching staff, he developed his skills and attracted the attention of professional scouts.

Professional Career

Ross was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 17th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft. He began his professional career in the Red Sox' minor league system, making his debut with the Lowell Spinners of the Class A Short Season New York-Penn League.

He steadily advanced through the Red Sox farm system, pitching for various affiliates including the Greenville Drive (Class A South Atlantic League), Salem Red Sox (Class A Advanced Carolina League), and reaching the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs of the Eastern League in 2014.

In 2015, Ross was part of a significant trade. He was acquired by the Detroit Tigers organization as a player to be named later in a three-team deal that primarily involved Yoenis Céspedes moving to the New York Mets. With the Tigers, he pitched for their Double-A affiliate, the Erie SeaWolves, and later earned a promotion to their Triple-A affiliate, the Toledo Mud Hens of the International League.

After his time in affiliated baseball, Ross continued his career in various independent leagues. He played for teams in leagues such as the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball and the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, extending his professional playing career.

Playing Style

Ross was primarily utilized as a relief pitcher throughout his professional career, known for his ability to provide innings in various situations. He featured a fastball, slider, and changeup, and was noted for his control and ability to induce ground balls.
