Caroline Curren

Caroline Curren (born February 13, 1982) is a former international field hockey player from Northern Ireland who represented the Ireland women's national field hockey team. Primarily playing as a midfielder, she earned over 150 caps for Ireland and captained the national side. After retiring from international play, she transitioned into sports administration and coaching roles.

Early Life and Club Career

Curren was born in Northern Ireland and developed her field hockey skills from a young age. She played for several prominent clubs throughout her career, including Ulster Elks and Pegasus Hockey Club, both successful teams in the Irish Hockey League and domestic cup competitions.

International Career

Curren made her debut for the Ireland women's national field hockey team in the early 2000s. She quickly established herself as a key player in midfield, known for her strong work ethic, leadership, and tactical awareness. She was appointed captain of the national team and led Ireland in numerous international tournaments, including European Championships and World Cup qualifiers. Her career spanned over a decade, during which she accumulated more than 150 international caps, making her one of Ireland's most experienced players of her era. She retired from international hockey in 2013 after a distinguished career.

Post-Playing Career

Following her retirement from competitive international hockey, Curren remained actively involved in sport. She moved into sports administration and development, holding positions such as the Women's Pathway Manager for Ulster Rugby. In this role, she focused on developing female talent and participation pathways within the rugby union system in Ulster, drawing on her extensive experience as an elite athlete and captain. She also engages in coaching and mentoring, contributing to the development of the next generation of athletes.
