Carl Rasmussen (1841 – 1911) was a Danish painter best known for his landscape works that depict the natural scenery of Denmark and surrounding regions.
Overview
Born on 22 July 1841 in Copenhagen, Denmark, Rasmussen received his artistic training at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under prominent teachers of the period. He debuted at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition in the early 1860s and subsequently became associated with the Danish realist tradition. Throughout his career, Rasmussen traveled extensively throughout Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, producing a substantial body of work that includes oil paintings, watercolors, and sketches. His paintings were exhibited regularly at the Charlottenborg exhibitions and were acquired by both private collectors and public institutions, including the Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen. Rasmussen died on 6 December 1911 in Copenhagen.
