Camino Winds is a crime thriller novel written by American author John Grisham. Published on April 28, 2020, by Doubleday, it is the second book in Grisham’s Camino Island series, following the 2017 novel Camino Island.
The story is set on the fictional Camino Island off the coast of Florida. The plot centers on Bruce Cable, a prominent rare-book dealer and owner of Bay Books. As the island is evacuated in anticipation of Hurricane Leo, Cable chooses to remain. In the aftermath of the storm, Cable discovers that one of his friends, a thriller writer named Nelson Kerr, has died. While the death is initially attributed to the hurricane, Cable begins to suspect foul play based on the nature of Kerr’s injuries and the contents of a manuscript Kerr was working on before his death. The narrative follows Cable as he conducts an investigation into a corporate conspiracy involving the nursing home industry.
The novel transitioned away from the more traditional legal thriller format typical of Grisham’s work, focusing instead on mystery and amateur sleuthing. Upon its release, Camino Winds reached number one on The New York Times Best Seller list for fiction. It was followed by a third book in the series, Camino Ghosts, in 2024.
