Definition
Coral refers to marine invertebrates of the class Anthozoa within the phylum Cnidaria. Individual corals are called polyps, which are small, sessile organisms that secrete calcium carbonate (aragonite) exoskeletons. When many polyps live together in colonies, they form structures commonly known as coral reefs.
