Clube Desportivo Monte Carlo (commonly abbreviated C.D. Monte Carlo or simply Monte Carlo) is a professional football club based in Macau. Founded in 1984, the club competes in the Liga de Elite, the top tier of Macanese football, and is one of the territory’s most successful teams.
History
C.D. Monte Carlo originated as a community sports association before professionalising in the late 1990s. The club rose through the lower divisions and established itself as a leading side in the early 2000s, securing three consecutive Liga de Elite titles in 2002, 2003 and 2004. This period also saw Monte Carlo represent Macau in the 2002–03 AFC Champions League qualification round. Subsequent league championships were won in 2008 and 2013, bringing the club’s total to five top‑flight titles.
Stadium
The team does not own a private stadium; instead, it plays its home matches at neutral venues managed by the Sports Bureau of Macau. Primary venues include Estádio Campo Desportivo (capacity 16,272) and Lin Fong Sports Centre.
Colours and nickname
Monte Carlo’s home kit is predominantly yellow, earning the nickname “Os Canarinhos” (The Canaries).
Recent performance
In the 2023 season the club captured the Taça de Macau (Macau FA Cup), qualifying for the 2023–24 AFC Cup play‑offs. The 2024 Liga de Elite campaign concluded with a fourth‑place finish.
