Bystrowianidae is an extinct family of chroniosuchian tetrapods, a clade of reptiliomorphs closely related to the early amniotes. Fossils attributed to this family are known from the Late Permian and Early Triassic strata of what is now Eurasia, particularly Russia and China.

- Limbs: Relatively short limbs with broadened distal elements, suggesting a fossorial or semi‑terrestrial mode of life.
Paleoecology and biogeography
Fossil localities indicate that bystrowianids inhabited fluvial and lacustrine environments within the supercontinent Pangea. The presence of both Permian and Triassic representatives suggests that the family survived the Permian‑Triassic mass extinction, albeit with reduced diversity.
Phylogenetic relationships
Within Chroniosuchia, Bystrowianidae is usually recovered as the sister group to Chroniosuchidae, another family of heavily armored chroniosuchians. Phylogenetic analyses (e.g., based on cranial and osteoderm characters) consistently place bystrowianids as basal to the more derived chroniosuchids, reflecting an early branching within the order.
Research significance
Bystrowianid fossils provide important data on the early diversification of reptiliomorph tetrapods and their adaptations to variable terrestrial and aquatic habitats during the end‑Permian transition. Their distinctive osteodermal armor also contributes to understanding the evolution of dermal protective structures in early tetrapods.
