Butte College

Butte College is a public community college located in Oroville, California. Established in 1967, it is part of the California Community Colleges System and serves the educational needs of Butte, Glenn, and Tehama counties. The college is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC).

History

Butte College was founded in 1967 following a vote by residents of the Butte Junior College District. Initial classes were held in temporary facilities, including the former Chico High School building. Construction of the permanent main campus, situated on a large rural site near Oroville, began in the early 1970s, with the campus officially opening in 1974. Since its inception, the college has continuously expanded its academic offerings and facilities to serve the growing and diverse population of its service area.
