Burgin lies in the north‑central part of Kentucky, approximately 12 mi (19 km) north of the county seat, Harrodsburg, and about 65 mi (105 km) south‑west of Lexington. The city is situated at an elevation of roughly 860 feet (262 m) above sea level. U.S. Route 127 passes through the city, providing connectivity to surrounding communities.
History
The community that became Burgess was originally established in the early 19th century under the name "Burgess Station," referencing a nearby railroad depot. In 1901, the settlement was formally incorporated as the city of Burgin, taking its name from early settler and landowner Thomas Burgin. The arrival of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad contributed to the town’s growth as a local commercial hub during the early 1900s.
