Bucky Covington (born November 8 1977) is an American country music singer who gained public attention as a contestant on the sixth season of the television talent show American Idol in 2007, where he finished in eighth place. Following his appearance on the program, Covington pursued a recording career, releasing multiple studio albums and singles that charted on the Billboard Country charts.
Early life and education
James “Bucky” Covington was born in Rockingham, North Carolina. He attended Rockingham High School, where he participated in the school’s music program and performed in local venues. Prior to his television debut, Covington worked in various occupations, including as a carpenter and a construction worker.
Career
American Idol (2007)
Covington auditioned for American Idol in Charlotte, North Carolina, and progressed through the competition to reach the final eight contestants. His performances on the show included renditions of country and pop songs, which contributed to a fan base that supported his subsequent recording endeavors.
Recording contract and debut album
After American Idol, Covington signed with Lyric Street Records, a division of Disney Music Group. In 2009, Covington released the single “Gotta Be Somebody,” followed by the album I'm Alright under the label E1 Music (formerly Koch Records). The title track “I'm Alright” reached the Top 40 of the country chart. Subsequent singles have included “The Party Ain't Over” and “For You,” the latter a collaborative charity recording.
