Buck Martinez is an American former professional baseball player, manager, and broadcaster. Born on November 2, 1948, in Redding, California, he played as a catcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 17 seasons, primarily with the Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, and Toronto Blue Jays, from 1969 to 1986. Known for his defensive skills, Martinez was recognized for his strong throwing arm and game-calling abilities.
He served as the manager of the Toronto Blue Jays during part of the 2001 season, compiling a win-loss record of 33–41 before being replaced. After retiring as a player, Martinez transitioned into a broadcasting career, becoming a well-known color commentator and analyst, especially for Blue Jays television broadcasts on Sportsnet in Canada.
Martinez also represented the United States as a player in international competition, including the 1967 Pan American Games. Following his managerial tenure, he remained active in baseball media and community outreach.
