Charles Irvin "Bubby" Rossman (born June 29, 1992) is an American-Israeli professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. He played college baseball for Cerritos College and California State University, Dominguez Hills. He was selected in the 22nd round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers and made his MLB debut at age 30 with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2022. He has also pitched for the Israeli national baseball team in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.
Early Life and College
Rossman was born in La Habra, California, to Charles (an actor) and Denyce Rossman. He is Jewish and has a younger brother. He attended La Habra High School, where he played baseball, football, and soccer. He began college at Cerritos College, playing outfield and batting .307 as a freshman and .341 as a sophomore. He then transferred to California State University, Dominguez Hills, double-majoring in business and kinesiology. In his 2014 senior season, he batted .261/.383/.455 as a switch-hitter, won a Division II West Region Rawlings Gold Glove Award in right field, and also pitched 8.1 innings.
Professional Career
Rossman was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 22nd round of the 2014 MLB draft (669th overall) as a pitcher, despite his preference to remain an outfielder. He pitched in the Dodgers' minor league system from 2014 to 2016 before being released due to a slow recovery from a triceps injury. He then spent several seasons in independent leagues, including the Sioux City Explorers (2017), Cleburne Railroaders (2019), Trois-Rivières Aigles (2019), and York Revolution (2021), as well as time in the Mexican League.
On November 9, 2021, Rossman signed a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. By this time, his fastball was reaching the high 90s, touching 99 mph. He was called up to the major leagues on July 13, 2022, making his MLB debut at age 30 against the Toronto Blue Jays. He walked a batter and gave up a home run to Teoscar Hernández before retiring the next three batters, including a strikeout of Matt Chapman on a 98 mph fastball. He was awarded a National League Champions ring with the Phillies.
Rossman later signed minor league contracts with the New York Mets (2023) and played for the Kansas City Monarchs (2023) and Mexican League teams Rieleros de Aguascalientes (2024–2025) and Olmecas de Tabasco (2025), from which he was released on May 14, 2025.
International Career
Rossman represented Israel at the 2021 European Baseball Championship, winning a silver medal. He also pitched for Team Israel in the 2023 World Baseball Classic and the 2023 European Baseball Championship, where he recorded a 0.00 ERA with seven strikeouts over four hitless innings.
