Brian Smith (ice hockey, born 1937)

Brian Smith (born October 25, 1937) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Chicago Black Hawks and the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 1960s.

Playing Career Smith began his professional career in the Chicago Black Hawks organization. After playing in various minor league affiliates, including the Buffalo Bisons of the American Hockey League (AHL), he made his NHL debut with the Black Hawks during the 1961–62 season. He spent parts of three seasons with Chicago before being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

With the Maple Leafs, Smith played in the 1964–65 and 1965–66 seasons. He primarily split his time between the NHL club and their AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans, where he was a key player. He was known as a steady, reliable defenceman.

Throughout his professional career, Smith played in 163 NHL games, recording 6 goals and 18 assists for 24 points. He also accumulated 98 penalty minutes. His career extended into the late 1960s, primarily in the AHL and Western Hockey League (WHL).
