Brett Newlin

Brett Newlin (born March 22, 1991) is an American former professional soccer player who played as a defender. His professional career spanned multiple clubs in Major League Soccer (MLS) and the United Soccer League (USL).

Early Life and College Career

Newlin was born in Sacramento, California. He attended Rio Americano High School and later played college soccer at Oregon State University from 2009 to 2012. During his time with the Oregon State Beavers, he made 74 appearances, scoring 3 goals and providing 3 assists. His strong performances at the collegiate level garnered attention from professional scouts.

Professional Career

Newlin began his professional career when he was selected by Seattle Sounders FC in the second round (25th overall) of the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft. He spent time with the Sounders, though he did not make an MLS appearance for the club.

In 2013, Newlin was loaned to the Charlotte Eagles of USL Pro, where he gained valuable professional experience, making 13 appearances and scoring 1 goal.

He returned to MLS in 2014 when he was traded to Chivas USA. He made his MLS debut with Chivas USA and went on to make 10 league appearances for the team during the season.

Following the dissolution of Chivas USA at the end of the 2014 season, Newlin joined his hometown club, Sacramento Republic FC, in 2015, which competed in the United Soccer League (USL). He played 17 matches for Sacramento Republic FC before concluding his professional career.
