Brantford (provincial electoral district)
Overview
Brantford is a provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada, which elects one Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. The riding encompasses the entirety of the City of Brantford.
Geography
The electoral district of Brantford is defined by the municipal boundaries of the City of Brantford. It is situated in Southern Ontario and is surrounded by the larger provincial riding of Brant.
History
The current Brantford electoral district was established for the 1999 provincial election. It was created from portions of the former provincial ridings of Brantford and Brant-Haldimand-Norfolk. Prior to the 1999 redistribution, the City of Brantford had been part of a riding also named Brantford, though its boundaries often extended beyond the city limits. The boundaries of the Brantford electoral district have undergone minor adjustments following subsequent electoral redistributions, notably before the 2007 and 2018 provincial elections, to account for population shifts and maintain relative parity in elector numbers across districts.
Representation
The following is a list of Members of Provincial Parliament who have represented the Brantford electoral district:
Dave Levac (Liberal) – 1999–2018
Will Bouma (Progressive Conservative) – 2018–present
