Description
Boronia lanceolata is a woody shrub endemic to southwestern Western Australia. The plant typically attains a height of 0.3–1.0 m. Its leaves are linear to narrowly lanceolate, measuring 10–30 mm in length and 1–3 mm in width, and are usually sessile. The foliage is glabrous to sparsely pubescent. Flowers are borne singly or in pairs in the leaf axils, each borne on a pedicel 5–10 mm long. The calyx consists of four narrow sepals, and the corolla is comprised of four petals that are generally white to pale pink, measuring about 5–8 mm in length. The species possesses eight stamens that alternate in length. Fruit is a follicle containing several seeds.
Distribution and Habitat
The species occurs in the south‑west botanical region of Western Australia, primarily between the towns of Perth, Geraldton, and Albany. It grows on sandplains and low‑lying hills, favoring sandy or gravelly soils within heathland and shrubland communities, often co‑occurring with species of Eucalyptus and Melaleuca.
Ecology
Flowering has been recorded from August to November, aligning with the late winter to spring period of the southern hemisphere. The flowers are likely pollinated by native insects, a common pollination strategy among Boronia species, though specific pollinator observations for B. lanceolata have not been documented in the literature.
Conservation Status
According to the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (Western Australia), Boronia lanceolata is currently classified as "Not Threatened". Its populations are considered stable within its known range.
