Etymology / Origin
The name “Bom Jesus” (Portuguese for “Good Jesus”) derives from a Catholic devotion to the Jesuit image of the Good Jesus, which was installed in a chapel that served as a focal point for early settlement in the area. The suffix “de Goiás” distinguishes the town from other Brazilian localities with similar names and indicates its location within the state of Goiás.
