According to the 2021 Romanian census, the population of Bolintin-Deal was recorded at around 13,000 residents, reflecting a modest decline from the 2011 figure of 13,317. The local economy is primarily based on agriculture, small‑scale manufacturing, and services catering to the commuting population that works in the nearby metropolitan area of Bucharest.
Etymology/Origin
The name “Bolintin” is believed to derive from a historical personal or family name, possibly of Slavic origin, that was associated with the settlement’s founders. The suffix “-Deal” is Romanian for “hill,” distinguishing the town from the nearby locality of Bolintin-Vale (“Vale” meaning “valley”). Thus, “Bolintin-Deal” can be interpreted as “Bolintin on the hill.”
