Bobrovytsia Raion

Bobrovytsia Raion (Ukrainian: Бобровицький район) was a raion (district) of Chernihiv Oblast in northern Ukraine. Its administrative center was the city of Bobrovytsia. The raion was abolished on 18 July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Chernihiv Oblast to five. The area of Bobrovytsia Raion was merged into Nizhyn Raion. The last estimated population of the raion was 30,379 (2020 est.).

Geography Bobrovytsia Raion was located in the southwestern part of Chernihiv Oblast. It bordered Kyiv Oblast to the west and south. The territory covered an area of approximately 1,420 square kilometers. The raion was characterized by a predominantly flat landscape, typical of the Polissia region, with significant areas of forest and agricultural land. Several small rivers, including the Supiy and the Bobrovytsia, flowed through the district.

History The raion was established in 1923 as part of a large-scale administrative reorganization in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. Throughout its history, like many administrative units, its boundaries and subdivisions saw changes. In the post-Soviet period, it remained an integral part of independent Ukraine's administrative structure.

The significant administrative reform of 2020 led to the dissolution of Bobrovytsia Raion. This reform aimed to optimize the administrative division of Ukraine by creating larger and more efficient districts. Consequently, the territories of many smaller raions, including Bobrovytsia, were consolidated into newly formed or expanded raions.

Administration The administrative center of Bobrovytsia Raion was the city of Bobrovytsia. Before its abolition, the raion comprised one urban hromada (Bobrovytsia urban hromada) and several rural hromadas. These local self-governing units were responsible for local services and administration within their respective territories. Following the 2020 reform, these hromadas became direct subdivisions of the newly enlarged Nizhyn Raion.
