Blood-Club Dolls 2

Blood-Club Dolls 2 is a 2020 Japanese live-action film, serving as the sequel to the 2018 film Blood-Club Dolls. It is part of the extensive Blood franchise, specifically drawing inspiration from the Blood-C anime series and the Blood-C The LAST MIND stage play, rather than being a direct continuation of the Blood-C: The Last Dark animated film.

Background and Production The Blood-Club Dolls film series originated from a new live-action interpretation of the Blood-C universe, focusing on characters and lore established in the anime and its subsequent stage adaptations. Both films were directed by Shutaro Oku, who also directed the Blood-C The LAST MIND stage play. Jun'ichi Fujisaku, a key writer for the Blood-C anime and other Blood franchise entries, contributed to the screenplay. The film continues to feature actors from the stage play and the first film, most notably Ryunosuke Matsumura as Fumito Nanahara and the voice of Maaya Uchida as Saya Kisaragi. Production aimed to expand upon the themes and narrative introduced in the initial film.

Plot Blood-Club Dolls 2 continues the story from its predecessor, delving deeper into the conflict between humans and the Elder Bairns (Furuimono), monstrous entities that feed on human blood. The narrative primarily follows Fumito Nanahara and a group of individuals who find themselves entangled in a secretive "Blood-Club," a shadowy organization or location where battles against the Elder Bairns unfold. As Saya Kisaragi, the legendary katana-wielding protagonist, emerges, the film explores complex relationships, betrayals, and the ambiguous nature of both humans and the Elder Bairns. It further develops the psychological struggles of its characters as they confront their pasts and their roles in the ongoing supernatural conflict, often questioning their own identities and allegiances within the brutal world they inhabit.

Release The film premiered in Japan on July 11, 2020.
