Bill Hufnagle

Bill Hufnagle is an American former collegiate and professional football coach, primarily known for his extensive tenure as an offensive line coach. He spent over two decades at Western Michigan University and also coached in the National Football League (NFL) for the Detroit Lions.

Early Life and Playing Career

Hufnagle played college football as an offensive lineman at Kent State University before embarking on his coaching career.

He remained with the Broncos for a significant portion of his career, serving under multiple head coaches, including Jack Doolittle and Al Molde. His tenure at WMU stretched over 20 years, making him one of the program's longest-serving assistant coaches. During his time, he was instrumental in developing numerous offensive linemen, many of whom went on to professional careers.

Professional Coaching

In addition to his collegiate work, Hufnagle also coached in the NFL. He served as the offensive line coach for the Detroit Lions under head coach Wayne Fontes. His tenure with the Lions included the late 1980s and early 1990s, a period that saw the team feature a dynamic offense led by running back Barry Sanders.
