Biff Elliot

Biff Elliot (born Leon Shalek; July 26, 1923 – August 15, 2012) was an American actor best known for being the first actor to portray the fictional private detective Mike Hammer on screen in the 1953 film adaptation of Mickey Spillane's novel I, the Jury. His career spanned over five decades, encompassing roles in film, television, and theatre.

Early Life and Career

Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, Elliot grew up with an early interest in acting. After serving in the military during World War II, he pursued his passion, eventually landing roles on the stage. His distinctive gravelly voice and tough-guy persona made him a natural fit for hard-boiled characters.

Mike Hammer and Film Career

Elliot's most iconic role came early in his career when he was cast as Mike Hammer in the 1953 film I, the Jury. This marked the character's first appearance in a feature film, establishing a template for subsequent adaptations. The film, shot in 3D, showcased Elliot's rugged looks and intensity, earning him recognition as a formidable screen presence.
