Bieśno

Bieśno is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Malechowo, within Sławno County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-western Poland. It is situated approximately 6 kilometres (4 mi) south-west of Malechowo, 19 km (12 mi) south-west of Sławno, and 33 km (20 mi) north-east of the regional capital Szczecin.

Geography

Bieśno is located in the historical region of Pomerania, characterized by a mix of agricultural land and forests. Its elevation and specific local features are typical of the relatively low-lying, glaciated landscape of northern Poland.

Administration

The village falls under the jurisdiction of the gmina (commune) of Malechowo. Like many smaller Polish villages, its local governance is handled at the gmina level, which provides essential public services and local administration.

Demographics

Bieśno is a small rural settlement. Population figures for individual villages of this size are often grouped within gmina statistics, but it is typical for such villages to have a population ranging from a few dozen to a few hundred inhabitants.

History

Historically, the region where Bieśno is located has seen various changes in political control, including periods under Polish, Pomeranian, and German rule. Following World War II, the area became part of Poland. The post-war period involved significant demographic shifts as German populations were resettled and Poles, often from eastern territories, moved into the region. Like other villages in Western Pomerania, Bieśno's history reflects these broader regional and national transformations.

Economy

The economy of Bieśno, consistent with many rural villages in Poland, is primarily agricultural. Local residents are often involved in farming, forestry, or services supporting the agricultural sector. Some may commute to larger towns for work.
