The Beruas Museum (Malay: Muzium Beruas) is a local museum located in the town of Beruas, Manjung District, Perak, Malaysia. Established in July 1995, the museum is housed in a former courthouse and is administered by the Perak State Museum Board. Its primary purpose is to collect, preserve, and exhibit historical artifacts and documents related to the ancient Malay kingdom of Gangga Negara and the historical settlement of Beruas.
History
In 1991, the Beruas Historical Survey Project conducted a comprehensive study of the area’s archaeological and historical heritage. Following this research, the museum building was transferred to the Perak State Government in 1995 and opened to the public in July of that year.
Architecture
The museum occupies the structure of a former courthouse, repurposing the colonial‑era building for cultural exhibition while retaining its original architectural features.
Exhibitions
The museum’s collection comprises approximately 300 artifacts that illustrate the material culture of Gangga Negara and early Beruas. Exhibits include illustration maps, inscriptions, and various objects dating from the 2nd to the 11th centuries AD, reflecting the Hindu‑Buddhist influences and the later Malay period of the region.
