Benon Magezi was a Ugandan Anglican bishop and theologian who served as the Bishop of the North Kigezi Diocese in the Church of Uganda from 2014 until his death in 2022.
Overview
Born in the mid‑1960s, Benon Magezi pursued theological education in Uganda and abroad, eventually attaining a doctorate in theology. He held academic positions, notably as a lecturer and later as a senior faculty member at Uganda Christian University, where he contributed to the training of clergy and lay leaders. In 2014, Magezi was consecrated as the second Bishop of North Kigezi, a diocese located in the western region of Uganda. During his episcopacy, he was involved in diocesan administration, pastoral oversight, and advocacy on social issues affecting his congregants. Bishop Magezi died on 24 March 2022 in a motor‑vehicle accident near his diocese’s headquarters.
