Benjamin Swearer was an American naval officer who served as a Lieutenant during the War of 1812. He is primarily known for his service aboard the frigate USS Constitution.
Swearer was one of the casualties during the USS Constitution's famous engagement with the British frigate HMS Guerriere on August 19, 1812. In this pivotal battle, which resulted in a decisive American victory and earned the Constitution the nickname "Old Ironsides," Lieutenant Swearer was killed in action. His death is recorded among the few American fatalities during this significant naval encounter of the War of 1812.
