Benedetto Caetani (died 1296)

Benedetto Caetani was an Italian cardinal. His death is notable because it occurred before his nephew, also named Benedetto Caetani, became Pope Boniface VIII. His death created a vacancy in the College of Cardinals that would eventually allow his nephew to be elected. Details about his life and career prior to his death are limited. His significance lies primarily in the context of the subsequent papacy of his nephew and the political climate of the late 13th century.
