After his spell with St Helens, Warburton moved to Widnes Vikings, where he continued to play at a high level. He later joined Swinton Lions, becoming a prominent figure for the club during various seasons in the Championship and League 1, where he also had a stint with Rochdale Hornets.
Following his playing career, Warburton transitioned into coaching. He served as an assistant coach for Swinton Lions and later took on the role of interim head coach for the club. He is known for his work ethic and leadership on and off the field throughout his career in professional rugby league.
