Ben Dixon (Australian rules footballer)

Ben Dixon (born 14 June 1977) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played his entire senior AFL career with the Hawthorn Football Club. He later worked as a football commentator and coach.

Early life and junior football
Born in Victoria, Dixon attended Assumption College, Kilmore, and played his early senior football with the Yarrawonga Football Club. He was selected by Hawthorn with pick 77 in the fifth round of the 1994 AFL National Draft.

AFL playing career
Dixon made his AFL debut in 1997. Over a twelve‑season career (1995–2007) he played 203 games and kicked 282 goals, primarily as a forward. Notable moments include a game‑winning after‑the‑sir​en goal against Carlton in Round 17 of the 2001 season. He was a member of Hawthorn’s 1999 night premiership team. Dixon retired at the conclusion of the 2007 season.

Post‑football career
After retiring, Dixon transitioned to media, appearing on Fox Footy’s “Future Stars” program and providing commentary for AFL broadcasts. In 2017 he was appointed goalkicking coach for the St Kilda Football Club. From 2021 he has been a rotating panelist on the television show Bounce, contributing segments such as “Dicko’s Social Life” and “The Golden Fist Award.”

Ben Dixon’s father, Joe Dixon, played a handful of games for the Fitzroy Football Club in 1963.
