Bekabad District

The Bekabad District (Uzbek: Bekobod tumani) is a district (tuman) of Tashkent Region in Uzbekistan. Its administrative center is the town of Zafar.

Geography The Bekabad District is situated in the southeastern part of the Tashkent Region, sharing a border with Tajikistan to its east. It encompasses an area of approximately 670 square kilometers (260 sq mi). The terrain is largely flat, characterized by fertile agricultural lands.

Demographics As of 2021, the estimated population of Bekabad District was 161,800 people. The majority of the population resides in rural areas.

Economy The district's economy is primarily driven by agriculture. Key agricultural activities include the cultivation of cotton, grains (such as wheat), and various fruits and vegetables. Livestock farming also constitutes a significant part of the local economy.

Administration It is important to note the distinction between the Bekabad District and the city of Bekabad. The city of Bekabad is an independent administrative unit, functioning as a city of regional subordination and a key industrial hub, despite being geographically adjacent to the district. The administrative center of the district itself is the town of Zafar. The district is further subdivided into various rural communities (qishloq fuqarolar yigʻini).
