Beeston (UK Parliament constituency)

The Beeston (UK Parliament constituency) was a county constituency in Nottinghamshire, England. It returned one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.

History The constituency was created for the 1955 general election following the Representation of the People Act 1948 and the subsequent Sixth Periodical Report of the Boundary Commission for England. It largely covered areas previously part of the Broxtowe constituency, particularly the urban district of Beeston and Stapleford.

Beeston was generally considered a safe Conservative seat during its existence. It was abolished for the February 1974 general election. Most of its territory, including Beeston and Stapleford, was absorbed into the new Beeston and Stapleford constituency. Some northern areas were transferred to the expanded Broxtowe constituency.

Boundaries The constituency primarily comprised the urban district of Beeston and Stapleford, along with the eastern part of the rural district of Basford. This included areas immediately to the west and south-west of the city of Nottingham.
