Beau Bell (December 19, 1907 – May 28, 1977) was an American professional baseball player. He played as a right fielder in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Detroit Tigers (1935–1939) and the St. Louis Browns (1940).
Early life and education
Born in Beaumont, Texas, Bell attended Texas A&M University, where he played college baseball for the Aggies.
Professional career
- Minor leagues: Before reaching the majors, Bell spent several seasons in the minor leagues, notably with the Dallas Steers and the Minneapolis Millers.
- MLB debut: He made his major‑league debut on April 15, 1935, with the Detroit Tigers.
- Peak performance: Bell’s most productive season was 1936, when he posted a .325 batting average, 28 home runs, and 112 runs batted in (RBIs). He led the American League in RBIs that year.
- Later years: After being traded to the St. Louis Browns for the 1940 season, Bell’s playing time declined, and he left the majors after the 1940 campaign. He returned to the minor leagues before retiring from professional baseball in the early 1940s.
Post‑playing career and death
Following his playing days, Bell worked in various non‑baseball occupations, including as a sales representative. He died in Beaumont, Texas, at age 69.
Legacy
Bell is remembered for his strong offensive output during the mid‑1930s, particularly his 1936 RBI total, which remains a notable statistical achievement for the Detroit Tigers franchise.
